Dorothy Helen (Murphy) Kaiser

Dorothy Helen Murphy Kaiser passed away on March 5, 2016 at her home.  She was born on February 6, 1930 at her home along Piedmont Lake in Kirkwood Township, Belmont County on Murphy's Ridge.  She was the daughter of Ross Alexander and Ethel Olive Humphrey Murphy.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Denver James Kaiser; brothers: Harper Murphy, Bainard Murphy and Wade Murphy; and sisters: Leila Brokaw and Mary Luna Murphy.

Dorothy served as the Barnesville Elementary School Secretary for 18 years.  She has been a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church since moving to Barnesville with her husband in 1950.  Within the church, she has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher and Director, United Methodist Women's member and officer, member of the Working Hearts Class, and a member of the Grace Notes.

Dorothy's passion for supporting youth and their education is evident through her many dedicated years to the 4-H program.  She was a 57 year advisor with the Barnesville Progressive Home Helpers 4-H Club where she proudly guided hundreds of members including her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was an active member and past officer of the Belmont County 4-H Council and served on the 4-H Camp Piedmont Board.

She was an Honorary Member of the Belmont County 4-H program, Honorary Member of the Barnesville FFA Chapter and Honorary Member of the Union Local FFA Chapter.  She and her husband, Denver, were honored with the Ruritan Outstanding Citizens of the Year and an Ohio Governor's Award for "Joined Hearts in Giving' upon their 50th year of marriage.  She was also a 63 year member and past officer of the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are her children: Elaine Michael (Mike Hite), Jim (Julie) Kaiser, Mary Lou (Mark) Barricklow and Becky (Edward) Rapp; grandchildren: Eric (Meagan) Michael, Jason Gilham, Trevor (Tracy) Kaiser, Matt (Aleshia) Barricklow, Sean (Heather) Michael, Heidi (Jim) Plavesky, Travis Kaiser, Marisa (Ronnie) Duvall II, Robyn (Curt) Hatton, Andy Barricklow, Erica Kaiser, Tyler Fornal, Ashley and Bailey Nelson; great-grandchildren: Alex Slagle, Cormac, Gwyneth and Riley Michael, Tristan and Natalie Kaiser, Emily and Dylan Barricklow, Jenna and Ronnie Duvall III, Kaitlyn Gilham and Kelsey Hatton; and her ever faithful Bischon, Suzy, has been at her immediate side for 9 years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Main Street United Methodist Church, 230 West Main St., Barnesville, Ohio and on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 10am until the time of the service at 11am with Pastor Richard Cox officiating.  Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Hendrysburg, Ohio.  Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.

The family has requested that donations in Dorothy's honor may be sent to a memorial fund through the Belmont Co. 4-H Council at the OSU Belmont Co. Ext. Office, 101 N. Market St., St. Clairsville, Ohio, 43950.
