Sarah Atkinson Obituary

Sarah E. Atkinson, 37, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away after a long hard fight on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Riverside Methodist Hospital with her mother and fiance, Andy by her side as she went to be with Jesus.  She was born on April 19, 1984 in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was the beloved daughter to Joseph D. and Patricia J. (Moore) Atkinson. 

Sarah was a 2003 graduate of Barnesville High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Barnesville, Donate for Life, a member of the ASPCA, and the NRA. She enjoyed life in spite of a lifetime of sickness, she loved reading, movies, decorating and design, cross stitching traveling, going to the shooting range, and playing Lego games on the xbox.

During her lifetime she overcame cancer at the age of 10, in 1994, then a mini stroke at 17. Her heart was starting to fail at the age of 29. She had to have an LVAD (left ventricle assistant device) implanted to her heart, a few months later she had a major stroke while waiting to receive her heart. She received her heart transplant at the age of 31 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was doing fine and loved life until November 2021 when she was hospitalized with covid pneumonia. She was doing very well and was on the road to rehab when pulmonary fibrosis damaged her lungs. She was surrounded by her family, pastor, and Andy on Tuesday, February 1st. She lived a life witnessing to her faith, she loved her Lord.

Sarah was preceded in death by and infant sister; three infant cousins; cousin, Corey Moore; grandparents, Harold and Audrey Moore and Dale and Betty Atkinson.

Sarah is survived by her parents, Joseph and Patricia; brother, Andrew Atkinson; a very beautiful niece, Morgan Atkinson; a wonderful nephew, Declan Atkinson; fiance, Andy Saffle; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her dog, Pepper.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial following at Hope Cemetery. Sarah's care is entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.

Donations can be made in Sarah's name to Belmont County Animal Rescue League, the First Christian Church ("The Rock" in memo) or Donate for Life.
