Richard "Dick" Strous, 74, of Barnesville, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Wheeling Hospital surrounded by family. He was born on November 15, 1946 at Barnesville Hospital to the late Earl (Sam) and Jessie Alberta (Bert) Strous.
Dick was a 1964 graduate of Barnesville High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corp. following high school. He was Coropal in the 1st battalion, 9th Marine, 3rd Marine Division. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and one gold star, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. Dick was wounded in March of 1967 where he lost both legs in combat. He loved playing poker and sunbathing by his pool every day. Some of his proudest moments was supporting his children and grandchildren throughout their sporting events. He knew no stranger and he loved having people over to visit and swim in the pool.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother William Strous and Gary "Butch" Strous; brother-in-law, Dale Hendershot.
Dick is survived by his children Holly (John) Dolence and Jay (Heather) Strous; grandchildren Keith and Alaina Dolence and Braydn and Jordyn Strous; sister, Sharon Hendershot; nieces and nephews; and his special fat cat Bobo.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 6, 2021 from 1-3pm and 5-8pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home 319 N. Chestnut Street Barnesville, Ohio. Visitation Saturday from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00 with Rev. Tom Detling officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
