Retired Barnesville Police Department K9 Dixie, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 in the comfort of the lap of her handler and best friend, Andrew Stewart at Barnesville Veterinary Services.
Dixie started her career with the Barnesville Police Department in 2014 with her handler, Officer Benjamin Neuhardt. In 2016, when Neuhardt left the agency in a full time capacity, Dixie partnered up with Officer Andrew Stewart. The two worked together until 2020 when K9 Dixie retired. Andrew Stewart took ownership of K9 Dixie and they were together until her passing. K9 Dixie was an exceptionally awesome K9 and worked great with both handlers as they did with her. There is a special bond only known by the K9 and their handlers, and this was certainly the case with K9 Dixie.
During her time with the Barnesville Police Department, K9 Dixie assisted in multiple felony arrests, apprehensions, tracks, and drug seizures including the departments largest seizure of methamphetamines in 2019. K9 Dixie was the Barnesville Police Department's first K9 and will forever have a special place in the hearts of the department, the community, and most of all her handlers.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 4pm until the time of the memorial service at 5pm with Pastor Joe Thornton leading the service at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713.
In lieu of flowers, Andrew requests memorial contributions to be made to the Barnesville Police Department for their K9 fund to continue K9 Dixie’s legacy through K9 Croc.
