Nancy Carnes Obituary

Nancy Ann Taylor Carnes, 79, of Barnesville, passed away February 1st, 2022 from complications due to Covid-19. She was born July 12th, 1942 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth McAlpine Taylor and Virginia Hehman Taylor.

She is survived by a brother David McAlpine Taylor of St. Clairsville. She has one son Jeffrey James Carnes of Hillard, OH & a daughter Karen (Carnes) & Jim Large of Belmont. Two special granddaughters Morgan Large & grand pups Oxley & Millie Fayetteville, AR & and Rebekah Large of Columbus, OH. She always said her "girls" were her greatest blessing & proudest accomplishment. She was the best mom & grandma you could ask for. Nancy also had many loved nieces, nephews & friends.

She was a 1960 graduate of St. Clairsville High School and played saxophone in the band. She graduated Cum Laude from Ohio University with a degree in Education and had her Kindergarten certification. She also received Cum Laude for her masters degree in counseling from Ohio University.

Nancy's accomplishments include winning an award for a poem published in The National Anthology of Poetry and Essays at age 16. She also wrote a story published in the book "Swimming Pits and Tube Sledding". She was a dedicated member and legislation speaker of Delta Kappa Gamma (retired teachers organization), a Times Leader judge for The 1988 Belmont County Spelling Bee, & past president of the Christian Women's Fellowship at Barnesville First Christian Church.

She also received a Civil Achievement Award from the Ohio House of Representatives. Her activities involved Red Hats, lifetime member of the Barnesville Eastern Star, docent and member of the Belmont County Victorian Mansion Museum, & a served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels with Jeannine Triplett.

She enjoyed puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, eating out, traveling throughout the country & to Europe, & being there for anything & everything related to her girls.

She dedicated her life to teaching others & promoted lifelong learning. She was a teacher at New Covenant Academy in St.Clairsville & at Barnesville Schools. She loved the teachers at Barnesville and often said they all worked together for each and every child in their classrooms. Each child was special to her. They were the future of our country and world. She always told her girls the only thing someone can never take away from you is your education.

In recent years, the Barnesville Senior Center gave her a place to socialize with caring friends. They traveled, talked, played games, and visited each other often. She will be greatly missed. As always she always said "Behave yourself. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." Her family will keep doing so in her memory.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 4-7pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio where services will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 10am with Pastor Jerry Wenger officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Masks are encouraged.
