Nellie Irene Monte de Ramos, 87, residing under the care of her loving son in Bellevue, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at her home. She was born on October 1, 1933, in St. Clairsville, Ohio to the late Roscoe Merle and Alma Jane (Reed) Mellott.
Irene Monte de Ramos lived on West Main Street in Barnesville, Ohio since the mid-1960s. She worked at the Barnesville Medical Center as a nurse to her husband Dr. Calvin B. Monte de Ramos. In this role, she got to interact with many of the community. Irene befriended many while supporting local athletics, even well after her own children graduated from Barnesville High School and moved to others state for work and military service. Irene enjoyed daily walks and talking with the neighbors between the hospital and airport, weekly attendance of Sunday services at the United Methodist Church, and the monthly comradery offered by those of Filipino community in the Tri-State area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Calvin B. Monte de Ramos on August 29, 2006; her siblings, Herman Lee Mellott and Glen Mellott. Irene is survived by her sons, Kevin (Lucia) Monte de Ramos of Canada and Alan Monte de Ramos of Bellevue, Nebraska; daughter, Belinda Chapman of Lees Summitt, Missouri; four grandchildren, Rachel and Kyle Monte de Ramos and Olivia and Reed Chapman; brother, Carlos Mellott; and sister, Betty Gallaher.
As Irene cared for her husband, who struggled with Alzheimer's Disease over a 9-year period, Irene would require similar care in her final years as dementia challenged her recollection. The family would like to acknowledge all those who contributed to their care and who supported the family throughout.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 9 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM with Pastor Van Fisher officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.
