Maxine Mayhugh Obituary

Maxine Ruth (Castello) Mayhugh, age 86 of Barnesville, Ohio died February 18, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. She was born on November 7, 1934 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Dempsey and Belva Butler Castello.     
     
She was a member of the West Main Church of Christ.           

She devoted her love and time to her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. They brought so much joy into her life. She was able to go on many trips with them throughout the years and see many sights, including a cruise to the Western Caribbean.    
   
In her lifetime she wore many hats, besides being a mother and homemaker, she was a den mother for Cub Scouts, she delivered Meals on Wheels for Barnesville Hospital as well as volunteering her time at the Gift shop for ten years. She worked at Jonathan Logan for four years, and G.C. Murphy's for two years. She helped her daughter Melinda Anderson distribute books for Reading Is Fundamental to Barnesville students from Kindergarten through Fourth grades for over 16 years. She also babysat several children in Barnesville for many years.      
   
Most of all her pride and joy was the friendships she made as a member and treasurer of the Barnesville Junior Women's Club for fifty-one years. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, and bowling on a league. She loved playing cinch with some of her truest friends; Rita Hall, Becky Thomas, Paula Nowak, and Jean Reed and the times they shared together.     
   
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Melodie Annette Mayhugh Wrobel, brothers Edward Costello, Paul Castello, sister Martha Sells, brother-in-law Charles Sells, sisters-in-laws Donna Costello, Janice Castello, Diana Castello, and her loving companion Charles (Bucky) Johnson.     

Surviving are three sons, James (Lisa) Mayhugh of Springfield, Ohio, Jeff (Robin) Mayhugh of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Joseph (Robin) Mayhugh of Barnesville, Ohio, daughter Melinda (Mike) Anderson of Barnesville, Ohio, 14 grandchildren; Megan (Ty) Leach, Liza (Adam) Butler, Sarah (Jake) Sherman, Nathan (Angela) Anderson, Whitney (Glenn) Linnane, Tyler (Abbey) Mayhugh, Baylee Mayhugh, Brittany Mayhugh, Corey Mayhugh, Cheyenne, Savanna, and Austin Mayhugh, Samantha (Levi) Lemon, and Sydney Mayhugh; 10 great grandchildren, sister Shirley (Ben) Zak of Johnstown Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.        

The family would like to thank Barnesville Hospital and Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV for the wonderful care she received in her last days. We would also like to thank Astoria Place of Barnesville, Ohio for the time that she resided with them. We especially want to thank her caregiver, Jessica Holskey, who was amazing with her. Jessica made it easy for all of us and Mom loved her as if she was one of her own.     
    
In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, face masks and social distancing are required at visitation Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 11am until time of service at 2pm with Jamie Helmick officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street Barnesville, Ohio.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library.
