John Timothy Parkinson, Sr., born on September 18, 1942 in Barnesville Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2021.
Tim was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Robert Parkinson, and John Timothy Parkinson Jr; parents, Elizabeth Susan Parkinson and Herbert Joseph Parkinson; sisters, Becky Hesketh and Nancy Blake; and brother, Herb Parkinson.
Tim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcia Kay Parkinson; daughters Laura Ann Parkinson of Westminster, MD, and Kristin Diane Fahey (David) of Philadelphia, PA.; Also survived by two grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Jake Tyler Mullins of Philadelphia, PA, and Madison Elizabeth Mullins of San Diego, CA; his father-in-law, Charles Phillips; and brother-in-laws, Jay (Kay) Phillips and David Phillips. He was known as "Unc" to his many nieces and nephews whom he loved so much.
Tim, known as "Parky" to his many friends, grew up in Barnesville, Ohio. After graduating from Barnesville High School, he attended and graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1964, then attended George Washington Law School. Tim then began his long and distinguished career with the United States government, including the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He retired from the CIA in 1995 as an SIS4, one of the highest ranked positions in the agency.
He and his wife Marcia traveled the world after his retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting famous WWII sites. Tim was a collector of many things including WWII artifacts. He specifically enjoyed sharing this passions with his grandson Jake. Additionally, he was an avid collector of music boxes, victrolas, horns, cylinders, etc. Tim was a long time Cleveland Indians fan and collected historical memorabilia from the team. He specifically love collecting items from the 1948 world series team.
Private family burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life open house will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at noon at Marcia and Tim's house at 115 E. Walnut St., Barnesville, Ohio. Care has been entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home 319 N. Chestnut Street Barnesville, Ohio.
