John "Jay" Mayberry, 68, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away April 1, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 18, 1952 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late John K. and Margaret A. (Major) Mayberry.
Jay was a 1970 graduate of Barnesville High School. He was retired from the coal mining industry where he worked for 44 years. Jay also was the owner of East Ohio Home Inspection. Jay was a dedicated mason where he served as Past Master of Kirkwood Lodge #446; he was then Past District Grand Deputy Master of the 23rd district from 1993-1995; Past District Education Officer of the 23rd district. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite.
Jay served in many clubs and organizatons including BPOE #1699, he was an active member of the Barnesville Boosters, the 200 Club, he enjoyed running bingo with his lifelong friend Tony Householder. He was an avid Shamrock and Ohio State fan, and he loved golfing with his good friend Cliff Benson. He helped run the chain gang with Tim McKelvey and friends for years at the football games. Jay was baptized in the First Christian Church.
Jay is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan (Stewart) Mayberry; son, Brian Jay Mayberry; daughter, Stephanie; two grandchildren, Griffin and Gabriella; sister, Sharon (Dennis) Swan; and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, masks and social distancing will be required for visitation on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 4-8 pm with a Masonic service at 7:45pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home 319 N. Chestnut Street Barnesville, Ohio 43713 Services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ed Eberhart and brothers-in-law Chris Stewart and Dennis Swann officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Hendrysburg, Ohio.
