Ernest Lewis Albanese, Jr., 76, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, with his loving wife of 53 years at his side. He was born on December 31, 1946, in Martins Ferry, Ohio to the late Ernest Lewis and Hazel Virginia (Johnson) Albanese, Sr.
Ernie was a 1965 graduate of Union Local High School and a 1969 graduate of The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Following his graduation from West Point, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He served in Germany, Korea and then was stationed in Augusta, Georgia where he earned his Master’s Degree in 1975 from Georgia Southern University. He was honorably discharged as a captain in 1976.
Ernie and Mary Ann moved to New York City where Ernie worked for Citibank until his retirement.
Ernie was a soldier, Army Ranger, banker, author, collector and leading expert on art glass and pottery, particularly the art glass from the Ohio Valley.
In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Garnet Albanese.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Albanese whom he married on June 21, 1969; and a sister, Cynthia Peroni nee Albanese (Frank) of Phoenix, Arizona
A memorial visitation will be held for Ernie on their 54th wedding anniversary, Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 4pm until the time of the service at 6pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Military honors will be given at 6pm by Belmont County Veterans Association.
