Emery Stewart, III Obituary

Emery Clarence Stewart, III, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 under the care of Hospice of Guernsey County, and was a lifelong resident of Barnesville. He was born in Barnesville to the late Emery Clarence Stewart, Jr. and Vivian Hagan Stewart.

Emery was a 1966 graduate of Barnesville High School and a 1971 graduate of Ohio University where he received his B.S. and studied at The University of Tours (French: Université de Tours), Tours, France. A teacher extraordinaire, he taught French at St. Clairsville High School and French and Spanish at Ohio University's Belmont Campus.
Emery was a 22 year member of the Belmont County Historical Society and served as a board member and president for several years and recent recipient of the 2021 Maddox Award. He gave fabulous tours of the mansion, sharing its history, the family who lived there, and also the town of Barnesville.
A seasoned traveler, Emery guided many tours of Europe, especially France and of U.S. Presidential Inaugurations.
He was a self-proclaimed chef to which many in the church and community could attest. He also delivered Meals on Wheels in his retirement. He was also a master gardener and civil war buff.
Emery was a member, elder, and deacon in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and served as clerk of session on different occasions.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Jay Mayberry.

Surviving Emery are his brother, Christopher; sisters, Susan, Sally (Michael), and Sherrie (Sheldon); four nephews, Brian Mayberry, Matthew and Benjamin Fusek, and Alexander Heber; three nieces, Stephanie Robinette, Sarah Fusek and Audrey Heber; great nephews, Griffin Robinette and Malachi; and great niece, Gabriella Robinette.

In celebrating the life of Emery C. Stewart, III, a memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 2pm with a social hour following his service at the First Presbyterian Church, 124 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.   Emery's care has been entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home 319 N. Chestnut Street Barnesville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a scholarship in Emery's honor.  It will be awarded to a graduate of St. Clairsville High School who will pursue studies in a foreign language or international affairs.  To donate to this scholarship please mail donations to the St. Clairsville Alumni Association, PO Box 753, St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
