Dr. Donald Mayberry Obituary

Dr. Donald M. Mayberry, 92, of Barnesville passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Dr. Mayberry was born on September 23, 1927 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late William Loren and Ada (Carpenter) Mayberry.

Dr. Mayberry was a 1945 graduate of Barnesville High School and a 1954 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Dr. Mayberry is a Veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Captain from 1954-1957 at Sam Houston, TX and Ft. Eustis, VA. He was a member of the Barnesville First United Methodist Church, the Ohio Dental Association, past President of the Barnesville Rotary, past President of the Barnesville Board of Education, Barnesville Area Education Foundation, Co-founder of the Barnesville Medical Center, Citizen of the Year in 1967, and was a drummer in The Ohio State University Marching Band.

Dr. Mayberry started his dental practice in Barnesville in 1957. He welcomed his son, Dr. David Mayberry to the practice in 1980, and they worked side by side for many years until his reitrement in 2013. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a good friend to many who will miss him deeply. He loved his hometown of Barnesville and his alma mater, The Ohio State University.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and older sister, Betty Rice.

Dr. Mayberry is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Joyce (Spradlin) Mayberry; son, Dr. David (Lynda) Mayberry of Barnesville; daughter, Martha (Bobby Johnson) Moorehead of Barnesville; five grandsons: John (Janine) Sickmeyer of Upper Arlington, Michael (Christy) Moorehead of Powhatan, Justin (Dorothy Matusic) Turner of St. Clairsville, Dr. Jordan (Amy) Mayberry of Columbus and Andrew (Amanda Lancione) Moorehead of Flushing; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Doudna of Barnesville; best-friend, Donnie Lynn; and several nieces.  We would like to extend a special thanks to his wonderful caregivers: Tasha Stewart, Lenora Perdue, Sandy Delancey and Cheryl Johnson.

A Celebration of Life is being planned a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.
