Dr. Aaron James Samuel, 84, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 surrounded by his wife and children at Ohio Health Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born on April 27, 1939 in Wanlesswadi, India to the late Dr. Aaron Theodore Samuel and Baby Rachel (Manickam) Samuel.
Dr. Samuel was a kind, generous, and fiercely funny man. He was an avid storyteller who could make any stranger feel like a dear friend. He devoted his life to Jesus and helping others. After serving the Barnesville community as a trusted physician for more than three decades, he continued to touch lives and foster healing for inmates at the Belmont Correctional Institute (BECI). His genuine smile and booming singing voice reverberate in the hearts and minds of his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Samuel was preceded in death by his sisters, Florence Jesudasan and Grace Samuel; brother, Aaron Paul Samuel.
Dr. Samuel is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, whom he married on January 26, 1970, Mary Kanchana Samuel; children, Anita (John) McGill, Asha (Veda Jayarajan) Vedanandan, Priya Samuel Rupik, Aaron David (Cheryl Miller-Samuel) Samuel and Dr. Aaron Theodore Samuel; grandchildren, Rachel Kanchana McGill, Jaya Joan McGill, Aaron Isaac McGill, Andrew Rupik, Samuel Rupik, Nikhil Vedanandan; brother, Dr. Aaron D. Samuel; sister, Mercy Samuel; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 6-8pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Main Street Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Reverend Dr. John McGill and Pastor Michelle Bennington-Lucarelli officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville.
In lieu of flowers, please consider nourishing a child.There will be designated offering plates at the visitation and the funeral service for the Summer Lunch Program of the Barnesville Area Ministerial Association, for which Dr. Samuel volunteered regularly. Checks can be made out to the “Barnesville Summer Lunch program.” Friends and well wishers are also welcome to support The House of the Carpenter (https://houseofthecarpenter.com/) or another local organization or ministry that supports the needs of young people.
