Dorothy Jean (Starbuck) Smith, 92, of Munroe Falls, Ohio and formerly Barnesville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 of natural causes.
Dorothy was born July 14, 1930, in Salem, Ohio to Jesse and Clara Starbuck. She was a 1948 graduate of Olney Friends School in Barnesville, a Quaker in faith and a longtime member of Stillwater Friends Meeting.
Dorothy began her married life as a farmer’s wife to her loving husband, and soulmate of 66 years, Carl Smith. She was a voracious reader and obtained her Masters in Library Science while working as the librarian at Olney Friends School, eventually retiring as Director of the Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Anna Mae (Willie) Moffit, Ruthie (Roy Joe) Stuckey, and Betty (Lawrence) Osborn, her son-in-law Neal Newlin, and her grandchildren Jessica Caroline Newlin and Brian Smith Newlin.
She will be dearly missed by her children Sharon Newlin of Stockton, CA, Barb (Dave) Warrington of Hudson, OH, and Gary (Tracy) Smith of Winston-Salem, NC. Grandchildren Zach (Courtney) Newlin, Chris (Meredith) Warrington, Susan (Zach) Ramsey, Brittany (DJ) West, and Bradley (Brittany) Smith all cherished their grandma. Great-grandchildren Jessie and Ellie Newlin, Peter and Kaylee Warrington, Felicity and Lylyn Smart, and Ashton Smith brought a smile to Dorothy’s face. Also feeling the loss of Dorothy is her sister-in-law Kay Smith of Barnesville, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Dorothy’s life will be planned at a later date. Dorothy's care has been entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
