Delores Virginia (Courtright) Lallathin, 83, died peacefully at her house in Belmont, Ohio on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Now she is HOME!
Dee was born on Sunday, August 18, 1940 in Belton, WV just outside of Cameron to Kermit and Hazel (Reid) Courtright.
She grew up mainly in Pine Grove, WV. At 4 years of age while visiting a relative in the hospital she decided to become a nurse.
After graduating from Pine Grove High School in 1958 she went to nursing school at Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated as an RN in 1961. In November of that year she married Warren Lallathin.
She worked in various nursing roles her whole life except when her daughters Ruth and Janet were small. Dee loved being a mother and a nurse and was always taking care of somebody even after she retired from Barnesville Hospital after 30+ years of service.
She became a Christian when she was a young woman and she was truly an example of a Proverbs 31 woman.
She will be sadly missed by her church family, the Church of Christ in St. Clairsville, Ohio (1 Samuel 20:18) and the many friends and neighbors who grew to love her over the years.
Dee loved to travel, read and watch game shows. She enjoyed her flowers and would wait for the perennials to return every year. Dee recycled, was frugal, and she kept a spotless house. It was like a museum to Heloise.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gerald Courtright; her former husband, Warren Lallathin; brothers-in-law, Robert Lallathin and Larry Lallathin; and close friend, Carolyn Campbell.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ruth (Curt) Morrow and Janet Lallathin; grandchildren, Natalie (Mike) Cottrill and Ross (Allison) Morrow; great grandchildren, Grant and Miles Cottrill; sisters-in-law, Margie Courtright, Sondra Lallathin, and Linda Lallathin; brother-in-law, Rick (Cindy) Lallathin; several nieces, nephews, and special cousins, Jimmy (Sherry) Reid and Keith, Sandy and Shan Cumpston.
The family would like to thank all those who helped Dee to live independently over the last few years especially her neighbors (Roger, Donna, Brenda, Isaac) and church friends, Randy Hayes and Bunky Loy, who helped take care of her house.
Thank you to nurse, Julie Earle, and everyone at Hospice of Guernsey.
Dee loved to enclose a tea bag when she sent a card, encouraging the recipient to relax and enjoy a simple pleasure. Have a cup of tea with a friend and think about Dee.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 10:00am until the time of the service at 11:00am at the St. Clairsville Church of Christ, 47694 Reservoir Road, St. Clairsville, Ohio. Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio has been entrusted with Dee's care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Guernsey and St. Clairsville Church of Christ.
