Dean Ellis George, a 55 year-old Christian husband, father, brother and friend went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, September 14, 2022 at Bethany College. Dean was born on August 3, 1967 in Cambridge, Ohio to the late Harold Willis and Loretta Elaine (Porter) George.
He leaves behind a legacy of lovingkindness to all who came into his path. At the request of his daughter and her husband due to his overwhelming compassion and because of his Christian faith, he became a licensed minister and officiated their wedding, his one and only. He was also quick to make anyone who would listen a fan of IndyCar racing, Michigan Wolverines and Indianapolis Colts football, 80’s rock music, random trivial facts, and corny dad jokes. He never understood anyone who didn’t love doughnuts for breakfast or Skyline Chili for dinner, but he would always have a piece of candy in his pocket for anyone who needed a “palate cleanser.”
At a recent vigil held at Bethany College in Dean’s memory, he would have been surprised to know the impact he had on so many lives by simply being himself. Those who were in attendance often referenced the “light” he carried throughout campus that spoke without words, but those who knew him saw that light wasn’t just on the campus but everywhere he went.
Dean is survived by his wife of 29 years, Dawn Ann (Hunter) George; daughter, Michaela (Curry) Mire; son, Hunter George (fiancée, Brittany Falcone); sister, Anita (John) Warner; and nephew, Bradley English.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street in Barnesville, Ohio. The service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ed Eberhart officiating. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.
