Willis "Bud" McDonald, 93, of Barnesville, was called home by his master on Monday, April 21, 2014 in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on January 13, 1921 in Sharon, Ohio to the late Isaac and Ella (Shields) McDonald.
Willis was a Christian by faith and was a present member of the First Baptist Church. He is a WWII veteran where he served in the Army as a First Lieutenant and spent two tours of duty in the South Pacific Phillipines. After the service, he spent his life strip mining and retired from International Mineral and Chemical Corporation in 1984.
Willis was a life member of the American Legion Post 168 and life member of the VFW 2792. He spent many years working for the Veterans Affairs, where he was very active in Posts, Councils, District and State branches. He spent 10 years as a Chaplain.
He was also a very active Mason. He joined the Masonic Lodge #136 in Sharon, Ohio where he was elected Master of the Lodge in 1950, a Life Member 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner of Alladin Temple in Columbus. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1699 and a charter member of the Barnesville Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ivel McKinzie McDonald; second wife, Helen Giesey McDonald; 3 sisters: Lizzie Harper, Emma Morgan and Lydia Gall; 4 brothers: Raymond, John, James and Isaac, Jr; and an infant daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Piatt) Finch McDonald, whom he enjoyed running the Gingerbread House Bed and Breakfast in Barnesville with for 16 years; step-children, step-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from noon until the time of the service at 3pm with Pastor Rodney West officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will be in Sharon Community Cemetery in Sharon, Ohio. VFW Belmont County Honor Guard will conduct military services at the funeral home at 2:45pm.
