Wilford D. Hartley, 87, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at The Walton Retirement Home in Barnesville. He was born on September 5, 1937, in Barnesville to the late Elmer C. and Anna (Kirk) Hartley.
Wilford was a 1955 graduate of Olney Friends School and received a B.S. in Agricultural Business from Wilmington College. He was a member of the Stillwater Friends Meeting his entire life. He worked throughout Ohio for several companies over the years in fertilizer safety and farm equipment sales. Wilford loved to work with wood, and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a member of the Toastmasters Club in Columbus, and later was an active Hospice volunteer in Citrus County, Florida where he lived before moving back to Barnesville in 2021.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (McMillan) Hartley. They were married in 1983 and enjoyed many long years together.
Wilford is survived by his five children, Anne (Cornelius) Hartley-Willis of Menlo Park, California, Karen (Dana) Marshall of Seattle, Washington, Heather (Paul) VandenHeuvel of Evanston, Illinois, Lori Wright of Marysville, Ohio, and Jay Craig (Sharon) Wright of Safety Harbor, Florida; eleven grandchildren; and his brother, Ernest "Ernie" Hartley of El Dorado, California and his former wife Lyn Cope of Oberlin, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Wilford's care has been entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home in Barnesville. Campbell-Plumly-Milburn now occupies the very building where Wilford was born when it was the site of The Community Hospital of Barnesville.
