Walter E. Young, 95, of Barnesville passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab. He was born on July 24, 1919 in Sarahsville, Ohio to the late Frank and Rebecca VanDyne (Kirkbride) Young.
Walter was baptized as a Presbyterian. He was a member of the Olive Lodge #210 F&AM of Mt. Ephraim, Ohio and the US Trotting Association. He retired from RCA Corp. in Cambridge, Ohio in 1958. Walter owned and trained harness horses for more than 65 years. He drove and won his first race in 1945.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife - Evelyn Mae Young; daughter - Linda D. Young; five brothers - Delbert Clayton, Geroge William, Donald Charles, James Carliss and Robert Myron Young; and sisters - Madelyn Joy Dickerson and Opal Simms.
Walter is survived by a daughter - Sandra (Frederick) Meczka of Avon Lake, Ohio; three grandchildren - Russell (Kim) Young, Brett (Jen) Meczka Olmsted Falls, Ohio and Barra Terrigno Fairview Park, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 11 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM with Pastor Bob Merritt officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.
