Suzann Furney, 86, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on June 14, 2023 at Forest Hills. She was born on February 18, 1937 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Clyde Herman and Lillian Doris (Jefferies) Furney. Following graduation from BHS in 1955, Suzann attended Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio, where she obtained her RN license. She worked at Childrens Hospital, in Columbus, for a few years then moved to the Washington DC area, where she spent the remainder of her professional career. She obtained a BS degree in Nursing from American University, and a MA in Education from the University of Maryland, while working at several area hospitals. Most of her career was as Professor of Nursing at Montgomery College where she taught pediatrics to nursing students at local hospitals. Following retirement she enjoyed spending time at her house on the Chesapeake Bay in Chesapeake, MD. In addition to her parents, Suzann was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Richard Furney; brother-in-law, David Perkins; niece, Tynna Furney Harrelson; and long time friend Joan Cadmus. Suzann is survived by her sisters, Kay Perkins and Jeannie (Mike) Shepherd; nieces, Lisa (Bill) Perkins, Tammy (Donald) Wells, Jan (Curtis) Caldwell; nephew, Jay (Ken) Shepherd; and a great-nephew. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 9:30am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00am with Father Dave Cornett officiating at Assumption BVM Catholic Church. Burial following at Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library or Assumption BVM Catholic Church.
