Richard Allen Wharton, 71, of Barnesville passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Wheeling Hospital surrounded by his family.  Richard was born on December 8, 1949 in Barnesville to the late Willis and Margaret (Lucas) Wharton.

Richard was a 1967 graduate of Barnesville High School.  He was a retired coal miner, loved being outdoors, feeding and watching his birds, tinkering around, travelling with his wife and family, and spending time with his family and grandkids.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Wharton; and his beloved dog, Shelby.

Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Phyllis (Crum) Wharton; son, Brad (Brynn) Wharton of Barnesville; daughter, Stacey (Brandon) Marcum;  four grandchildren: Ethan, Noah, Austin and Leona; brother, Stephen Wharton of Barnesville; sister-in-law, Sherrie Wharton of Barnesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 11am until the time of the service at 1pm with Ev. Kim McFarland officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.  Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain, Ohio.
