Phyllis Modie, 78, a life-time resident of Barnesville, Ohio, passed away Thursday the 23rd of April at the Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling W. Va. Phyllis was born on March 13, 1937.   She was the only daughter of Mable M Modie and Edward J Modie who preceded her in death. A brother, Joseph C Modie also preceded her in death.

She is survived by three brothers and their wives:  Donald and Louise Modie who reside in Richfield, Ohio; Robert and Sally Modie who reside in Beverly, Ohio; Richard and Christine Modie who reside in Franconia NH and Fernandina Beach, FL.  She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Phyllis graduated from Barnesville High School in 1955.  She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education from Muskingum College in 1959.  She continued her education at John Carroll  University from which she received her M.Ed. in counseling.  Phyllis was member of the Barnesville Elks and a life-long member of the First Methodist Church.

Phyllis started her teaching career in Coshocton Ohio after graduation from Muskingum.  She continued her career in the Euclid School system from which she retired in 1983 and returned full time to Barnesville to care for her elderly mother and father.

Phyllis was very active in sports and especially loved to play golf.  She was one of the main organizers of her high school class reunions over the years.  She was always there to help her friends, neighbors and family in their time of need.  She will be missed by her large number of devoted friends and her family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Phyllis bequeathed her remains to the Ohio University.  There will be a memorial service for her that will be announced at a later date.
