Opal (Carpenter) Brown, 102, of Barnesville passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Astoria Place of Barnesville. She was born on January 19, 1919 to the late Arthur David Carpenter and Shelda Blanch (Todd) Carpenter and step father Clyde Carpenter. Opal's greatest joy was her family and working for many years as a teacher and leader in the children's department at the First Methodist Church in Barnesville. Opal was a loyal and helpful friend to all she met. Opal worked on the election board for many years. She also collected for the heart fund, cancer fund, and the Red Cross for many years. She was the best mother and grandmother ever. She always welcomed all her children's friends to the farm and enjoyed all of them. Thank you Mom. You are the greatest mom in the world. In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband Wayne W. Brown; daughter, Norma Hausch; sisters, Shelda Adkins and Virginia Gills; son-in-law, Joseph H. Hughes; and grandchild, Julie Zamouzakis. Opal is survived by her son, David (Carol) Brown; daughters, Cynthia Hughes, and Sherril (Becky) Kaplet; grandchildren, Steve (Brenda) Copeland, Lu Ann (Joe) Ware, David Carter, John Carter, Carol (Rubin) De Lorosa, Joseph (Sandy) Hughes, Laurie (Steve) Hawkins, Sherril (Nick) Spano, Pat (Molly) Kaplet, Davilyn Brown, Rick Johnson, and Jeff Johnson; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, loved ones and special caretakers, Tony de Angelos and Bob Gibson and special care friends at Astoria Place. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 11:00am until the time of the service at 1:00pm with Pastor Van Fisher officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home 319 N. Chestnut Street. Burial will follow at Southern Cemetery in Barnesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Methodist Church of Barnesville.
