Louis Franklin "Bud" Rockwell, 79, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehab. He was born on May 14, 1935 in Belmont County to the late Glenn R. and Elizabeth (Edgerton) Rockwell.
Bud graduated from Friends Boarding School (Olney) in 1953, graduated from Wilmington College in 1957, and attended graduate school at Cornell University. He married Helen Hadley on July 26, 1958. He worked for Chemagro Corporation for 13 years. He was partner with his brother, Bob, in Rockwell Orchards from 1976 until his retirement. Bud was active throughout his life in many agricultural organizations: 4-H Clubs, Grange, Farm Bureau (Belmont County Farm Bureau President), Fruit Growers Marketing Association (Member of Board of Directors), Ohio State Fruit Growers Society (State President), and the Belmont County & East Ohio Area Agricultural Extension Advisory Council. He was an early, enthusiastic participant in the Ohio Valley Farmers Market and the Captina Produce Auction. He derived much satisfaction from helping produce high quality fruits, vegetables, and apple cider.
Mr. Rockwell is survived by his wife of 56 years - Helen (Hadley) Rockwell of Barnesville; daughter - Juli Rockwell of Barnesville; son - Jonathan (Marlene) Rockwell of Barnesville; granddaughter - Emily Jo Rockwell of Grafton, Wisconsin; brothers - Walter (Martha) Rockwell of Booneville, Mississippi and Robert (Loisanne) Rockwell of Barnesville; and sisters - Luanna Gamble, Susan (Gary) Price both of Cleveland and Rebecca (Mark) Lystig of Eagon, Minnesota; and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 10 AM until the time of the memorial service at 2 PM at Stillwater Friends Meeting House, 61830 Sandy Ridge Road, Barnesville, Ohio. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
