Leila Terrill Rouse, beloved wife of William "Bill" Henry Rouse, Friends Boarding School Graduate, has passed away, and will join him in Stilllwater Meeting House Cemetery on June 23, 2013.  Leila and Bill met through another Olney Grad, Bill's sister Jane Rouse Gronewald.  The ladies were legal sorority sisters.  Leila and Bill married in Cincinnati, OH a few years after her graduation from National Univeristy's Law School and passing the bar in Washington, D.C.

After some time in Cincinnati during the Second World War, they moved to Texas for better health conditions for Bill. They moved to a then-little town about 5 miles from downtown Houston.  Both contributed to their city of Bellaire, TX (named after Bellaire, OH), by their commitments to both church and civic duties.

Early on, she and Bill started the church paper for the Bellaire Presbyterian Church, when there was no Quaker Meeting close enough for working people to sensibly attend.  They were faithful members there, and participated in the church governing bodies throughout their time as members.

Leila was tremendously active in the Bellaire Women's Civic Club, which donated funds earned throught the annual Antiques Fair to the Bellaire Library.  She did the public relations for the Fair for 35 years.  In addition, Leila was the founding President of the Bellaire Historical Society, which continues to this day, into its 40th year.

And, of course, you couldn't forget Leila's doing all the PR for the nearby counties for the Girl Scouts.  Every week, she would deliver the news for 7 counties worth of Girl Scout activities to the local papers.

Both were active in the governance of the Chinar Grotto organization in Houston, TX, an offshoot of the Masonic community that is very active in providing dentistry for the handicapped as well as for children with cystic fibrosis.

They shared the philosophy of "if you want to make new and lasting friends, find a cause you love and volunteer".  They loved their church and city, and followed their philosophy to the end.  Of course, there were other things that caught their eyes, but so many have known and loved them for their kindness and generosity.  Much of their inspiration came from the Friends' approach to life.  They both lived their faith.

They were survived by their daughter Frances and her husband Andrew White who reside in San Jose, CA.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the interment gathering at Stillwater Cemetery after Meeting on June 23rd, 2013, followed by a light lunch to be held at Wilbur Stanley's home.  Please RSVP to Wilbur at 740-425-2810.  Local arrangements by Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.
