Karen Jo Mayberry, 73, of Barnesville, Ohio was surrounded by her loved ones at home as she was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Karen was born on July 8, 1949 to the late Richard "Dick" and Melba Rebecca Swallie. Born and raised in Barnesville, she excelled in school, she was a 1967 graduate of Barnesville High School and went on to attend Ohio University where she earned her Bachelor's in Education. She married her high school sweetheart and together they built a loving home that will stand the test of time.
Karen devoted 35 years to teaching second grade at Barnesville Elementary. She not only impacted the lives of all the little minds she taught, but also those she had the privilege to call colleagues and some close friends. Karen enjoyed a good book, watching reality tv, shopping until she dropped, Christmas, Seneca Lake, golf cart rides, and traveling in her camper. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mike and Mary "Toots" Swallie and Lester and Myrtle Huntsman; her father-in-law, Clinton Mayberry; sister-in-law, Bea Swallie; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Gary; her two children, Ashley (Joe) Sellers and Josh (Rachel Atkinson) Mayberry both of Barnesville; her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Caden, Jax, and Zellie Sellers and Oakley Mayberry; brother, Steven D. Swallie of Barnesville; sister, Vicki (Wes) Huntsman of Bethesda; sisters-in-law, Vickie (Cam) Hayes, Annette (Tim) Hall; mother-in-law, Zelma (Zellie) Mayberry; and several nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 4-8pm and on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am with Pastor Cameron Hayes officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Bethesda, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karens memory to The Barnesville, First Presbyterian Church, 124 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio Whigville Community Church, 550 Carriage Drive, Plain City, Ohio 43064 or New Life Baptist Church, 94 Shady Lane, Barnesville, Ohio.
