James L. Thompson, 92, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at Barnesville Hospital. He was born on March 3, 1923 in Miles City, Montana to the late C.W. and Hazel (Davis) Thompson.
James was a graduate of Belmont High School of 1942. He served in the Army in WW II with General Patton's third army. He received the Silver Star by crawling on the ground to take a wire to a designated area under enemy fire. He was a retired employee of Saginaw Mine. James was a member of Belmont Church of Christ in Belmont, Ohio and was also a long time member of Pisgah Church of Christ prior to its closing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers - Glenn (Ruby) Thompson, Donald Gene Thompson; infant brother - Robert; and infant sister - Stella.
James is survived by his wife - Martha (Stephen) Thompson whom he married on October 24, 1946; son - Clyde (Becky) Thompson of Bethesda; sister-in-law - Carla Thompson of Bethesda; four nieces - Chris Thompson, Heather Hurd, Sandra Licaroli, and Karen Arrington; nephew Randy Thompson; and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 4-8 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio where services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 11 AM with Ev. Kim McFarland officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio. Military Honors will be conducted on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barnesville Hospital Emergency Room Building Fund, 639 West Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
