James E. Monahan, Sr., 70, of Barnesville, Ohio died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at his home. He was born on August 15, 1943 in Martins Ferry, son of the late Arthur E. and Winifred (Steiner) Monahan.

He was a good husband and father and he loved his family very much. He was a retired coal miner. He worked at the Saginaw mine, the Y & O mine, the Oak Park mine, and the Mills Creek mine in Kentucky and the Shoemaker mine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 infant sons - Timothy "Timmy" and Jason; maternal grandparents - August and Margaret (Baker) Steiner; paternal grandparents - Elsworth and Lavina (Palmer) Monahan; brother - Keith (Lillie) Monahan and a sister - Twila (Don) Kemp.

He is survived by his wife - Wanda Miller Monahan; two sons - James E. Monahan, Jr. of Barnesville and Chad M. Monahan of New Albany, Ohio; sister - Beverly (Bill) Mayhugh of Lancaster, Ohio; brother - Arthur D. (Sandra) Monahan of Bethesda; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 5-9 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Church in Miltonsburg, Ohio with Father Dave Gaydosik and Father Dave Cornett officiating. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
