March 21, 1935 – June 2, 2024
James Henry Hanlon, 89, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehab. He was born on March 21, 1935, in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Harry and Bertha (Montgomery) Hanlon.
He was a Korean War Veteran, Heavy Artillery, 4 Deuce Morter Division. He was a heavy equipment operator for R&F Coal Company and retired in November 1994 after 25 years of service, which he only missed one day of work due to an accident. He was proud of that.
In school, he was a very good athlete basketball, football, and marble champion. He loved playing golf, ping pong, pool, and bowling He enjoyed Seneca Lake outings for the weekend fishing, horseshoes, and having a good time with family.
He accomplished his goal in life, all but one, that came true in 2005 when he received his High School Diploma at Barnesville High School to a standing ovation. A very proud moment for him and his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Jo (Burcher) and his second wife, Sara Marie Bunting Hanlon; a sister, Nancy Grear; a brother, Marvin Hanlon; and best friend, Richard Carpenter.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Lissa Finnical and Jim of Barnesville; grandchildren, Mandy (Tim) Bishop, Josh (Erica) Finnical, Lance (Elisa) Finnical, Aaron (Shannon) Finnical; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Hunter (Hannah), Savanna, Kaleigh, Rachel, and one on the way; and his companion of 11 years, Sandra Brown.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 11am until the time of the service at 1pm with Ev. Val Roxby officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Quaker City, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jimmy's memory to Hospice of Guernsey.
