Jack O. English, 82, of Barnesville died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Emerald Pointe Health and Rehab Center. He was born on August 15, 1932, in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Ross and Clara (Marty) English.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Jack was an alumni of Barnesville High School, class of 1950. He served in the Army from 1953-1955, during the Korean conflict. Upon his release from the Service, Jack worked at Smith Lumber Company of Barnesville; Wicks Lumber Company in Bay City, Michigan, and Scott Lumber Company in Bridgeport, OH. A long-time small business owner, Jack ran a successful laundromat, dry cleaning business and Montgomery Ward catalog store. Jack retired from R&F Coal Company in 1987. He was a life-long member, church board member, and church historian of the Main Street United Methodist Church. A local history buff, Jack was instrumental in the induction of Barnesville native Elisha Gray into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2007. Jack was a past member of the Barnesville Rotary Club; a long-time member of the Experimental Aviation Association and past president of the Barnesville Area Amateur Radio Club. As a private pilot, Jack enjoyed taking many friends and acquaintances for airplane rides around the county. Jack was a member of the Seneca Sportsman Club since 1969.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jean (Squibb) English; daughter, Mary Devine of Barnesville; two sons: Steve (Lori) English of Pataskala and Paul (Diana) English of Salado, Texas; three grandchildren: Bradley English, Kirsten Devine and Kyle Devine; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio where service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015, at 11 AM with Pastor Richard Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery. Military service will be held at Crestview Cemetery at 12 PM by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Barnesville Hospital, Emerald Pointe Health and Rehabilitation, and Hospice of Guernsey for their exceptional care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jack's name to either Hospice of Guernsey or Emerald Pointe.
