Hubert Leland Chappell, 90, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at his home. He was born on August 12, 1931 in Boston, Ohio to the late Charlie Chappell and Hilda (Miller) Chappell Robb. Hubert was a 1949 graduate of Somerton High School. After high school he was drafted to the Army and was a Korean war veteran. Hubert was retired from Guernsey Memorial Hospital where he was a stationary engineer. He was a lifetime member of the Barnesville VFW. He was a former deacon at the First Baptist Church and instrumental in the construction of the church. Most recently he was a member of the First Christian Church in Barnesville. Hubert loved square dancing, playing cards, fishing, and making crafts. He was very active, he always stayed busy, and loved helping people. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved his family. In addition to his parents, Hubert was preceded in death by his infant sisters, Nina and Dorothy; brothers, Charles (Helen) Chappell and Frank Chappell, sisters, Virginia (Don) Maharg, Mary (John) Carpenter, Clara Carnett, and Ruth (Art) Beyer; and grandson, Jeremy Chappell. Hubert is survived by his wife of 68 years and 5 months, Shirley (McConaughy) Chappell; children, Karen Chappell, David Chappell, James (Chris) Chappell; grandchildren, Stephanie Chappell, Jennifer Chappell, Jami (Rich Willman) Chappell; great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Brynne', Everley, Dustin, Lacey; brother, George (Arlene) Chappell; sister in law, Judy Chappell, several nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 5-7pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:00am with Pastor Rodney West officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's or Samaratin's Purse.
