Helen Jean (Wood) Newland, 93, of Holloway passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Belmont Manor in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Helen was born on September 12, 1930, in West Alexander, PA to the late Glenn James and Mary M. (Acker) Wood. Helen and her husband owned and operated Woods Family Farm. She loved to watch birds and taking care of her plants. Her cats, Baby and Tiger, were her world. She loved a good lightning storm, conversation, tea, and enjoying the simple things in life. In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Newland, Sr. on April 28, 2005; son, James A. Newland, Jr.; sisters, Annie Myers and Mary Rodgers; brothers, William M. Wood and James G. Wood; and special niece, Tammy Wood. Helen is survived by niece, Annie (Al) Wood Jones and several other nieces & nephews; daughter-in-law, Nancy Newland of Holloway, Ohio; granddaughter, Jennfier (Tim) Sullivan of Arizona; grandson, Glenn Newland of Newark; great-grandchildren, Leo and Braden; and step-grandchildren, Colleen (Jason) Milburn and their children, Kammee, McCade, and Quinton and Troy (Sara) Huml and their daughters, Brooke, Baylee, and Bethanie. In honoring Helen's wishes, there will be no services held at this time. Care is entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
