Harvey Keith Ackerman, 83, of Somerton, Ohio passed away Sunday, Feb. 22 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Keith was born May 22, 1931 to the late Sam and Josephine (Hagan) Ackerman.
He was a 1949 graduate of Somerton High School. Keith is a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a member of Friendship Lodge #89 F&AM.
Keith worked as a farmer and coal miner. He also owned and operated A&L Construction with his brothers in law using his talents to build homes for many years throughout Belmont and Monroe counties. He was a successful antique dealer as an entrepreneur of the Barnesville Antique Mall. He enjoyed going to antique shows selling the furniture that he loved refinishing. Keith was an avid collector of pioneer tools and traveled the country attending auctions to acquire them. He was proud of the little town of Somerton and did his best to preserve it including driving to Las Vegas to return the historic Somerton school bell to its rightful home and spearheading much of the planning and design for the Somerton Park.
In addition to his parents Keith was preceded in death by his eldest son Lloyd K. Ackerman and his brother Myron Ackerman.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife Evelyn (Lucas) Ackerman, whom he married June 2, 1951. Three sons, Tim Ackerman, Danny (Brenda) Ackerman and Kendall Ackerman. Seven grandchildren Dawn Ackerman (Myriam Chaumeil), Sam Ackerman, Jennifer Ackerman, Karen (Jeff) Munn, Adam (Alyssa) Ackerman, Jeffery (Jessica) Ackerman and Samantha Ackerman. Four great-grandchildren Katherine and Aaron Munn and Owen and Avery Ackerman. A brother Ken (Sue) Ackerman; a sister Wilda (Frank) Rector and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 5-9 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio where service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 11 AM with Rick Lallathin officiating. Burial will follow at Somerton Cemetery in Somerton, Ohio. Masonic Service will be held on Wednesday at 8:30 PM by Friendship Lodge #89 F&AM. Military service will be held on Thursday at 10:45 AM by Belmont County VFW Honor Guard.
Donations may be made to the Somerton Community Park a place Keith loved visiting frequently with his dearest friends.
