Harlen Mercer, 95, of Barnesville died on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center.  He was born in New Cumberland, WV on April 28, 1918 to the late Nathan and Adelia (Wells) Mercer.

Harlen was an Army veteran during WWII and a member of the Assumption Church in Barnesville.  He was a life member of Local 18 Operating Engineers - Akron, OH, he was also a member of L.O.O.M. of Wellsburg, WV, the Eagles in Follansbee, WV, Fiddlers Inn of Cadiz, BPOE 1699, a life member of VFW Post 2792 and American Legion Post 168, York Rite, Consistory, and was a Past Master of Friendship Lodge #89 F&AM.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mercer; 4 brothers: Dewey, Alvin, Clarence and Ray Mercer; 2 sisters: Nevada Heffner and Virginia Haught; and step-son, Walter D. Jefferis.

He is survived by his step-son, Robert (Sandi) Jefferis of Barnesville; step-daughter, Donna (James) Lee of California; 10 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; 7 step-great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandra Jefferis of Mississippi; and sister-in-law, Edna Tipley of Cleveland.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 19, 2013 from 5-8pm with a Masonic Service being held at 7pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville.  VFW Belmont County Honor Guard will conduct a military service at the funeral home on Tuesday August, 20, 2013 at 9am.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday at 10am at the Assumption Church in Barnesville with Msgr. Mark Froehlich officiating.  Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery.
