Frederick Hasbrouck "Ted" Cheffy, son of the late Homer Grant Cheffy and the late Mary Esther (Hasbrouck) Cheffy, died February 8, 2011 of cancer at his home in Severna Park Maryland. He was 79. Mr. Cheffy was born and raised in Barnesville, Ohio. He served as president of the Alpha Gamma chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity while attending The Ohio State University, from where he graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1956, where he was an Aircraft Controller, he began a 30-year career with Armco Steel Inc. of Middletown, OH. Beginning in sales, he worked his way through upper management to President of the Stainless Steel Division, and retired as Vice President of the Commercial Specialty Steels Division. For several years after retirement Mr. Cheffy continued coaching and mentoring business executives as a management consultant at Right Associates in Baltimore, MD. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Ararat Shrine in Kansas City. He enjoyed golf with friends and was a member of the Chartwell Country Club of Severna Park, MD. Mr. Cheffy was a member of Severna Park United Methodist Church of Severna Park, MD., where he served on several boards and committees. Surviving are his wife of 57 years Mary Margaret (Campbell) Cheffy; three children, John Frederick Cheffy and his wife Robyn Cheffy of Southlake, TX., Frederick Grant "Ted" Cheffy and his wife Cindy Cheffy of Forest Hill, MD., Amy Margaret (Cheffy) Saiz and her husband Paul Saiz of Glenwood, MD.; a brother, John Homer Cheffy of Barnesville, OH.; a sister, Phoebe Deyo (Cheffy) Linnabary of Knoxville, TN.; and seven grandchildren, Steven Cheffy of High Point, NC., Jason Cheffy of Forest Hill, MD., Nathan Cheffy of Southlake, TX., Sarah Saiz, Phillip Saiz, Grant Saiz, and Elly Saiz all of Glenwood, MD. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday February 17, 2011 at Severna Park United Methodist Church of Severna Park, MD., with a gathering and light refreshments immediately following in the Fellowship Hall. A Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00PM on Saturday February 19, 2011 at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home of Barnesville, OH., followed by a graveside service and burial at Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, the Severna Park United Methodist Church, or the American Cancer Society.
