Francis John Gaffney, 84, of Venice, Florida and formerly of Brooklyn, New York passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Astoria Place of Barnesville. He was born on August 18, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Francis and Elenore (McMahon) Gaffney.

Francis was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired guidance counselor at Comsewogue High School in Port Jefferson Station, New York and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lois (Galvan) Gaffney whom passed away on March 31, 2004; and brother-in-law, Raymond Sturm.

Francis is survived by his children, JoAnn (Tom) Murphy of Barnesville, Ohio, Frank (Cathy) Gaffney, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael (Michele) Gaffney of Baiting Hollow, New York, and Mary (Matt) Jens of Columbia, Maryland; nine grandchildren, Kelly (Samantha) Murphy, Colin Murphy, Montana Gaffney, Maddie Gaffney, Grace Gaffney, Kerry Ann Gaffney, Ryan Gaffney, Michael Gaffney Jr, and Maggie Jens; siblings, Marion Sturm and Richard (Libby) Gaffney; and special friend, Helen Pawlik.

Visitation and services will be conducted in Venice, Florida at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
