Florence Myrtle Powell Wharton, 97, formerly of Barnesville, Ohio died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was born on February 26, 1914 in Washington, Pennsylvania to the late Thomas Jefferson and Grace Myrtle (Gilmore) Sterling. Mrs. Wharton was a member of the Barnesville Main Street Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband - Earl H. Powell; second husband - John M. Wharton; 2 sons - Earl Thomas Powell and Stanley A. Powell; 3 brothers - Oswald J. Vile, Charles Nelson Ford, and Homer Ford; 2 sisters - Neva Bartholomue and Minnie Warren; and great-grandson - Paul Powell, Jr. She is survived by 2 daughters - Sarah (Richard) McAdoo of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Mary Jo (Herb) Parkinson of Buffalo, Ohio; brother - Stanley Ford of Edinburg, Virginia; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, August 26, 2011 from 1 PM until the time of the service at 3 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St, Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Bethesda, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barnesville Main Street Methodist Church.
