Evelyn Gertrude Sampson, 86, of Barnesville died Friday, August 12, 2016 at her home.  She was born in Somerton, Ohio on March 16, 1930 to the late George and Lina (Beardmore) Weber.

In addition to her parents, on May 15, 2016 she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John P. Sampson.

Evelyn was the owner of Barnesville Motors.  She and John also enjoyed farming and collecting and dealing antiques. Evelyn was a 1948 graduate of Barnesville High School and in 2008 she was inducted into the Barnesville Hall of Fame.  Evelyn  was very active in the Barnesville community. She was in charge of the Barnesville Alumni Banquet for 31 years, a member of the Barnesville Chamber of Commerce, active in the preservation of the Barnesville Depot, the 3C Cancer Walk, and was instrumental in purchasing a new Pumpkin Wagon for the Pumpkin Festival.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Bruce (Nancy) Sampson of Charleston, SC; daughter, Cindy (Bruce) McGee of Barnesville; seven grandchildren: Krista (Nick) Vernon, Dena Sampson, Steve (Diana) McGee, Peggy (Shane) Skinner, Kari (Liz Meredith) McGee, Jayna (Luther) Meyer and Erika (Steven) Drexler; thirteen great-grandchildren: Nichole Vernon, Astin Skinner, Kyleigh McGee, Tyler Vernon, Haiden Skinner, Jayln Skinner, Brooke Vernon, Travis Vernon, Kenadie McGee, Luther Meyer, Jr., Lydia Meyer, Roman Drexler and Elliott Drexler; and two sisters: Jean (Tom) Thompson of Columbus and Myra Chambers of Barnesville.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 4-8pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.  The service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11am with Jamie Helmick officiating.  Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery.
