IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Ellen
Moore
December 15, 1924 – March 16, 2026
Dorothy Ellen (Walter) Moore, 101, formerly of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away on 16 March 2026 at Hampton Manor of Commerce, Novi, Michigan. Dorothy was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia to the late Jacob Ray Walter Jr. and Ella Louise (Gauding) Walter on 15 December 1924. She was a 1942 graduate of Woodsfield High School and in her teenage years worked part time as a typist for the Pure Oil Company and as an usher at the Monroe Theater, which led to her lifelong love of movies.
Dorothy married Ray Moore of Barnesville, Ohio in January 1944 and, after his return from military service, the couple moved to Columbus, Ohio where they started their family. They moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1957, back to Columbus in 1978, then to Novi, Michigan in 2008.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Patrick (wife, Helen) Moore, Michael (wife, Lilly) Moore, Sue Ellen Moore and her partner Dee Boersma; four grandchildren (Timothy, Rebecca, Daniel and Gregory); and two great-grandchildren (Saige and Haven). Over the course of her life, Dorothy was a daughter, sister, niece, cousin, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and gentle friend. She enjoyed tulips in the spring, watching fireflies on summer evenings, autumn color, jigsaw puzzles in winter, and reading year-round.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio. Dorothy's care has been entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dorothy's memory to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/), the North American Butterfly Association (https://naba.org/), or the Woodsfield Monroe Theater (https://historicmonroetheatre.com/).
