Chester Earl Hartley, Sr. 86, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away Saturday morning, March 10, 2012 at Barnesville Health Care Center. He was born September 20, 1925 in Guernsey County, Ohio to the late Homer Isaac and Martha Elizabeth (Louhoff) Hartley. Earl was a 1944 graduate of Quaker City High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Religious Society of Friends. He was a former 4-H Advisor of the Somerton Ridgerunners, Belmont County 4-H Board, Farm Bureau Young Couples, and Farm Bureau. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife - Betty Ruth (Thompson) Hartley (01/02/2006); sister - Naoma Louise Brill; and infant daughter - Bonnie L. Hartley. Surviving are 2 sons - Chester E (Cathy) Hartley, Jr. of Holts Summit, Missouri and Kenneth Jay (Susan) Hartley of Virginia Beach, Virginia; daughter - Elizabeth L. "Betsy" Hartley of Barnesville; grandson - Timothy S. Hartley of Virginia Beach; 2 foster granddaughters - Christine Thompson of New Bloomfield, Missouri and Heather (Matt) Hurd of Jefferson City, Missouri; and 2 foster great-grandchildren - Loren Phillips of New Bloomfield and Seth Evers of Jefferson City; sister - Shirley Hull of Cambridge; and 3 nieces & a nephew. Services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 7 PM at the Barnesville First Christian Church with Pastor Ed Eberhart & Pastor Bob Merritt officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery in Quaker City, Ohio. A time of food and fellowship will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 prior to the service from 5-6:30 PM at the New Life Center. Arrangements by Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made to Barnseville First Christian Church or Ohio Yearly Meeting.
