Charles William Merritt, 86, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at his home. He was born on March 22, 1936 in Somerton, Ohio to the late William and Hilda (Gibbons) Merritt. Charles was a graduate of Barnesville High School and West Liberty State College. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1964. He later held several positions at an aluminum plant in Hannibal Ohio. He started as a clerk and worked his way to upper level management, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Somerton United Methodist Church and the Barnesville VFW. Charles is survived by his wife, JoAnn Merritt; sister, Caroline (James) Moore; children, Jack (Janice) Merritt, Kimberly Merritt and Todd (Sandy) Merritt; grandchildren, Douglas (Debra) Groh, Rana (T.R.) Hayford, Rachel (Gray) Kelly, Jason Merritt; and great-grandchildren, Trenton Groh, Dalton Groh, Cameron Groh, Kolton Groh, Kayson Groh, Kristopher Groh, Bethanie Groh, Carter Kelly, and Annabelle Kelly. In addition to his parents, William and Hilda Merritt, Charles was preceded in death by his son, Randy Merritt; a grandson, Connor Merritt; and a brother, Gary Merritt. In honoring Charles wishes, cremation will take place with no additional services held at this time. Charles care is entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
