Steve “Easy” Whitacre, age 60, of Barnesville, Ohio, died peacefully on June 28, 2018 at Cleveland Clinic's Akron General Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Centerin Akron, Ohio.
Born October 7, 1957 in Barnesville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Donald Whitacre and Betty Shepherd Whitacre. Steve was a 1976 graduate of Barnesville High School and a 1994 graduate of Washington State Community College with an associates degree in computer science.
Upon graduation, Steve was hired as an instructor of computer programing at Washington State Community College from 1995-1998. He was then recruited to the IT Department at OME-RESA for the Jefferson County School District until he was forced to retire following a motor vehicle accident in 1999. He was a member of Friendship Lodge #89 F&AM in Barnesville. He was also a long-time ham radio operator, call sign N8JXH. He enjoyed spending time with family, reading and riding his motorcycle annually down the Blue Ridge Parkway with The Ohio Valley Blue Shirt Boys. Steve loved the outdoors, traveling, camping, fishing, writing, music, art, computers and eating at Longhorn Steakhouse.
In addition to his parents, he was proceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Virginia Shepherd and Don and Evelyn Whitacre, and an infant brother, Shawn.
Steve is survived by his wife, Connie Newlon of Barnesville, OH; his son, Joseph (Rachel) Whitacre of Barnesville, OH; daughter, Jessica (Adam) Jones of Hillsboro, TN; grandchildren, , Jacob and Taylor Whitacre of Barnesville, OH, Alexis Wade of Barnesville, OH, Bristol and Parker Jones of Hillsboro, TN. He also leaves his siblings, Scott Whitacre, Susan Whitacre Spencer, Sam (Lisa) Whitacre all of Barnesville, OH; four nephews and two great-nephews; the mother of his children, Mary Whitacre and longtime dear friend, Margaret Robinson; as well as a host of friends around the world.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff at both Cleveland Clinic's Akron General Hospital and the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center for their tender and loving care of Steve.
In honoring Steve’s wishes a graveside committal service for family and friends will take place at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Union Cemetery, in Morristown.Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
