Mary Lu (Johnson) Bewley

Mary Lu Bewley, 96, of Sweetser, Indiana formerly of Somerton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Marion, Indiana. She was born on July 22, 1923, in Woodsfield, Ohio to the late Dr. William Paul and Florence Estell (Stimmel) Johnson.

Mary Lu loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. John 11:25 "I am the resurrection and the life, He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live." She was a loving wife and mother. She was a active member of the Somerton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, directed Vacation Bible School, was a choir member, soloist, and active in the United Methodist Women. Mary Lu and her husband, Charles, owned and operated Bewley's General Store and Post Office in Somerton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Gordon Bewley; a daughter, Donna J. Mitchell; brother, Phillip Paul Johnson; and a sister, Charlotte Anne Richards.

Mary Lu is survived by her husband, Charles Henderson Bewley of Sweetser, Indiana; a son, Rev. Dennis (Lois) Bewley of Brunswick, Ohio; a daughter, Lu Anne (James) Barbina of Sweetser; 11 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 10am until the time of the service at 11am with her son-in-law, James Barbina officiating at Somerton United Methodist Church, 55400 Washington Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Somerton Southern Cemetery in Somerton, Ohio. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary Lu's memory to the Somerton United Methodist Church, 55400 Washington Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713.
