Herman Alexander "Jr." Burkhart, Jr., 72, of Temperanceville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born on March 15, 1946 in Monroe County to the late Herman Alex and Deloris Catherine (Burkhart) Burkhart, Sr.
Jr. was a 1963 graduate of Barnesville High School. After high school, he worked in a steel mill in Canton before being drafted into the United States Marines in 1965 to serve during Vietnam. Following his military service he worked in the strip mine retiring from R&F Coal Company. He worked with his sons building houses doing business as Burkhart Construction.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Batesville American Legion Post 578, and Barnesville VFW 2792.
He enjoyed golfing, landscaping, puzzles, hunting, and entertaining his friends and family enjoying making people laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Arthur Burkhart, Charles Burkhart, Robert Burkhart, Richard Burkhart, William Burkhart, and Eugene Burkhart; son, Duane Kent Burkhart.
Jr. is survived his wife of 48 years, Kay (Howiler) Burkhart whom he married on November 29, 1969; two sons, Denny (Adrienne) Burkhart of Barnesville and David Burkhart of Barnesville; daughter, Mandy Burkhart of Barnesville; three grandchildren, Madison Burkhart of Oregon, Brock and Natalie Burkhart of Barnesville; sister, Bertha (Marvin) Hossman of Malaga; and sisters-in-laws, Melba, Neva, Shelley, and Deborah.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 4-8 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chesntut Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 11 AM with Fr. Dave Cornett officiating at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Temperanceville. Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Guernsey County Veterans Council.
