Gene Edward McCann, 65, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Astoria Place of Barnesville. He was born on June 4, 1953 in Bellaire, Ohio to the late Edwin and Mary (Slaughter) McCann.
Gene was a simplistic man. He didn't put any emphasis on materialistic things. He valued friendship, and the respect of others more. He was the most positive man through his whole paraplegic life, in that we never heard a negative word in the state he was in. He learned to be content in whatever life threw at him. He was a sports man through and through. He was an avid Ohio State and Cincinnati Bengals fan and thrived on Cincinnati beating Pittsburgh.
Gene is survived by his brothers, George McCann of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Arthur McCann of Radcliffe, Kentucky, and Ed (Pat) McCann of Vienna, Illinois; sisters, Patty Moore of Jacobsburg and Sue McCann of California; special friends, Mike and Melinda Anderson and family; and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 3, 2018 from 6-8 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio and again on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM with Mike Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Armstrong Mills Cemetery in Jacobsburg, Ohio.
The family would like to thank all of the medical staff from Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, Wheeling Hospital, Bellaire Hospital, Martins Ferry Hospital, Allegheny General Hospital and UPMC Shadyside Hospital where they performed his surgery five years ago to save his life from an aortic dissect. They would also like to thank all of the staff at Astoria Place who grew to love him, understand him, and respect him as a person, not a patient, even when he was stubborn. They would also like to thank Hospice of Guernsey for all their care and support as well.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gene's memory to Centerville Christian Church, 46462 Main Street, Belmont, Ohio 43718. To send a note of condolence please visit www.CampbellPlumlyMilburnFuneralHome.com or follow us on Facebook.
