Doris Hissom Brown Obituary

Doris Lee (Pekari) Hissom Brown, 89, of Barnesville passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center in Barnesville.  Doris was born on October 27, 1928 in Barnesville to the late Charles Pekari and Helen (Rooks) Mick.

Doris attended Barnesville Schools and was a member of the Barnesville First United Methodist Church.  She worked at several businesses in Barnesville while raising a family on the east side of town.  She was the Matriarch of her family and was commonly referred to as the Rose Kennedy of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jill Ann Hissom; her first husband, Robert Hissom; step-father, Johnnie Mick; her aunt, Ruth Ritchie; step-granddaughter, Jody Bain; and brother-in-law, Kirk Swallie.

Doris is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Joseph D. Brown; two sons: Martin David (Jeanette) Hissom and Joseph Rooks (Linda) Hissom; sister, Martha Swallie; and brother, Mike Mick.  Doris was known as Ma to her grandchildren: Denise (Jim) Jones, Jill (Matt) Stephen and Matt Hissom; step-grandson, Brian Anderson; and great-grandchildren: Karly (Rick) Bostic and her children, Jenner, Juddson and Jernee, Olivia Jones, Jacey and Jett Stephen, and Allen (Christie) Jones.  She dearly loved her large extended family of grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11am with Rev. Tom Detling officiating at the Barnesville First United Methodist Church, West Church St., Barnesville, Ohio.  Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barneville, Ohio.

Doris was part of what is called our country's greatest generation.  She experienced the Great Depression, a World War, and many social changes.  Many of her friends have gone before her but she leaves many people who love her.  She touched many lives over the course of her lifetime and now she can rest in peace.  God Bless her.  Special thanks to Hospice of Guernsey and everyone who took care of her these past few months.
