Welcome to the memorial page for

James Jefferis

December 21, 1949 ~ March 1, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old

James S “Jim” Jefferis of Woodsfield, Ohio, formerly of Wright Road - Barnesville passed quietly and peacefully at his home the morning of March 1st, 2017.  Son of the late Regis and Geraldine Jefferis of Barnesville, he is survived by his loving wife Candy, his children Doug (Michelle) of Columbus, OH, Becky Knight (Mike) of Barnesville as well as a grandson (Aidan) of Aurora, OH, 3 cousins, Brian Jefferis, Susan McKenzie, and Jeanie Frazier, and 2 aunts, Dolores Frazier and Ruth Jefferis.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Arthur Regis "Artie" Jefferis, Jr., cousin, Paul Bruce Jefferis and numerous great beagle and coon dogs.

James was a former employee of the #6 coal mine and farmer (2 things a young Jimmy swore he would never be - a coal miner or a dirt farmer) and prior owner of the Hilltop Carryout in Barnesville. He was an accomplished banjo player and one of the best damn southpaws in Barnesville baseball history.

Those that knew him will each have a story to tell you - he inherited a love of the land and music from his father and carried it throughout his life.  He  also enjoyed being outdoors, farming and above all us spending time with his family and numerous friends.

He was a member of the US Army and  proud Vietnam veteran as well as a life member of the VFW as well as a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the DAV.

He waged a valiant battle against pancreatic cancer the past 18 months and served as an inspiration in  the spirit that he approached the disease. He would never let the disease define him carried on doing the things he loved. He adopted the simple motto from his Vietnam days  of “drive on - don't mean a damn thing” and continued to enjoy his life.
