Ansel W. Hannahs, 84, of Barnesville died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Ohio Valley Medical Center. Ansel was born in Calais, Ohio on April 18, 1931 to the late Leland and Dorothy (Delong) Hannahs.
After high school, Ansel joined the US Navy and then transferred and retired from the US Army. After retiring from the US Army, he worked for Y&O Coal Company. Ansel was a member of Friendship Lodge #89 F&AM, VFW Post 2792 and the American Legion Post 168.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (McGee) Hannahs and brothers, John, Joseph and Paul Hannahs.
He is survived by step-daughters, Debbie Talafous of Canton, Sue Dye of Canton, Linda Wells of Barnesville, and Jenny (Todd) Pryor of Barnesville (Nancy's daughters); 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; seven siblings: Virgil (Louis) Hannahs, Lily (Carol) Eggman; Jerry (Monica) Hannahs, Jack (Mary Ellen) Hannahs, Renee Brown, Nancy Holloway and Jeannie Elliot; and several nieces and nephews.
Ansel enjoyed hunting and in the last few years had come a huge Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Ansel will be sadly missed by Jason, Megan & Karly, and Rachel & Stella. He was truly a wonderful grandfather to them and was very attached to Karly and Stella.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11 AM with Pastor Rodney West officiating at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio. Military Honors will be conducted by Belmont County Veteran's Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.
